Sample Size Calculator
Find the right sample size for your thesis survey using Slovin’s or Cochran’s formula. Everything is computed in your browser.
Note: Slovin’s formula is the same as Taro Yamane’s formula, n = N / (1 + N·e²). Use whichever name your adviser prefers.

Which one should I use? Slovin’s is the quick, popular choice when you know your population size and have no prior estimate of the proportion (it assumes a 95% confidence level). Cochran’s lets you set the confidence level and expected proportion; use 50% for the most conservative (largest) sample, and add your population size to apply the finite-population correction.
